Dedicated to creating a sustainable future
Vision
To create a sustainable and resilient world where communities are empowered to take collective action against climate change and environmental degradation.
Mission
To educate the public on renewable energy technologies and environmental conservation, while fostering community-driven initiatives to combat climate change, enhance biodiversity, and promote mental well-being.
Objectives
TSR’s 2024 "Empower Eco-Action" project by Third Sector Renewables (TSR) marked a significant step in addressing climate change through community-driven initiatives. Aiming to expand its network of eco-experts, the project focused on preserving ecosystems, promoting sustainable living, and protecting wildlife. Beneficiaries included the general public across the UK, who engaged in activities like marram grass planting and habitat restoration. Outcomes were impressive, with enhanced biodiversity, stronger community bonds, and increased public awareness of environmental issues. The project facilitated workshops, local events, and outreach efforts that significantly contributed to ecological resilience and sustainable practices.
The 2022 "Human-Nature Connect" project by TSR was a groundbreaking initiative aimed at addressing the mental health challenges exacerbated by the pandemic, climate change, and socio-political tensions. The project hosted a three-day residency in Ingleton, in the Yorkshire Dales, UK, providing 30 young adult creatives with eco-somatic arts activities such as music, dance, and visual arts, facilitated by experts. This immersive experience, co-delivered with Intercultural Roots for Public Health and Move2Change, fostered a deeper connection between participants and nature, promoting mental well-being. Outcomes included enhanced mental health, strengthened community bonds, and the creation of inspirational video content, reaching an additional 3,000 individuals online, highlighting the project's success in combining environmental engagement with creative expression.
TSR’s 2019-20 "Small Steps in Tackling Eco-Anxiety" project was a pivotal initiative aimed at addressing the rising levels of eco-anxiety among young people in Islington and Southwark, London. This project sought to empower over 100 young individuals through a series of 20 pop-up events featuring embodied arts activities like yoga, qigong, and dance. These activities provided tools to manage stress and foster a positive mindset toward climate action. While the project aimed to contribute to the London 2020 Health & WELLth event with the Intercultural Roots charity, the Covid-19 pandemic a 180 degree pivot to delivering interactive and online mental health and wellbeing classes online with Intercultural Roots’ support. Evaluated outcomes included increased awareness, improved mental well-being, and strengthened community bonds, demonstrating TSR's commitment to mitigating climate change impacts and supporting mental health.
In 2011, TSR launched the pioneering project "Watt's Your Energy Output?" aimed at promoting sustainable energy practices and community health. The project's objective was to create a portable "e-Zone" where participants could generate electricity by cycling, demonstrating the concept of renewable energy in a fun and interactive way. Beneficiaries included a diverse range of community members in Hackney, East London, with a focus on raising awareness about renewable energy and combating obesity through physical activity. The project successfully engaged over 3,000 participants and spectators, fostering stronger, healthier communities and contributing to local environmental sustainability efforts.
